Important Changes for 2011-2012 for WT

Important Changes for 2011-2012 at WT
New School Hours:
9:00-3:00 (previously 9:10-3:40)
Breakfast –8:45
All elementary buildings will close 30 minutes after the end of the school day.
Pre-School :
Preschool students will be assigned to attend either Tuesday/Thursday OR Wednesday/Friday all day from 9:00-3:00. Families will receive more detailed information in August.
Kindergarten:
Kindergarten students will be assigned to attend school either Monday/Wednesday and alternating Fridays OR Tuesday/Thursday and alternating Fridays all day from 9:00-3:00. Families will receive more detailed information in August.
Transportation:
Only students who reside in the area determined to be 2 or more miles from school OR those who have been previously notified that special transportation will be provided will be riding buses. Buses will not stop at day care centers or sitters’ houses. This means that most students attending WT will not have bus service and parents will be responsible for providing transportation to school.
Each family will receive more detailed information in August with drop-off and pick up procedures as well as procedures for walkers. For students who will be driven to school, we will begin unloading cars at 8:45.

  1. What do you suggest if I am a single mother and have to be at work at 830 am? My son goes to day care and now wont be able to ride the bus?

  2. Any crossing guards for those kids that have to cross 125?

  3. Unfortunately, I am sure you are not the only parent in that situation. Check with you day care provider to see if they have a transportation plan in place. Our office will re-open in August, if you should have further questions, please contact us. We will continue to post additional information as we receive it to assist with this transition.

  4. The bus situation wouldn't be so bad if the school hours were convenient for working parents. If I have to take my child to and from school I will be lucky to get in 5 hours of work per day. School levy fails, cuts are made to save the district money but the parents now have to spend more money and also get a smaller paycheck in the end. There is something seriously wrong with this picture.

  9. No unloading of students until 8:45am. Wow -- there is going to be such a back up of cars on Ohio Pike.

Any chance of letting the kids into the cafeteria at 8:30am instead to help with the traffic issues?

I thought the buildings were going to be open 1/2 hour before and after school.

Also, what happens when you can't get all the kids loaded into the cars by 3:30pm each day? Do they just stand around outside in the rain/snow/cold?

  10. Mrs. Schmidt, given the kids will be walking to school, have you contacted the city to have flashing yellow lights and 20 mile/hour school zone on Beechmont (Ohio Pike)? My kids will be walked over from Kids First Academy, and I am sure there will be kids from Brandy Chase, we need flashing lights and 20 mph school zone. and if the residents don't like the traffic jam on Beechmont now, maybe they will pass the November levy!!

  11. You all do realize that this is the districts way to get all you upset so that the parents and citizens of the community to vote the levy in. I think that is really sad that this was not thought entirely through for the safety of our children. I live a quarter mile short in order for my child to ride the bus. So according to the district I'm either allow my daughter to walk from Home Depot down 125 and cross to get to school, without any type of crossing guards or sidewalk. I think the parents of WT need to get together and find some way to car pool our children so that they get there safe. It would be great to have some type of parent meeting and pull our heads together to do this! We can save time, money, and gas by car pooling.

  12. The building will be open from 5:30-8:00 September 1st during Open House. This may be a good opportunity to set up car-pools with other parents. Also, a private bus company will be mailing information soon. LBS busing: www.lbsbusing.com, phone number 513-282-9306.
